Flags of Our Fathers tells the story of seven United States Marines of the 28th Marine Regiment headed for the World War II battle of Iwo Jima. These men will forever be remembered for raising the flag of the United States of America atop Mount Suribachi - an enduring image of American triumph.

Through a series of flashbacks, the movie reveals the training, battle, and post battle lives and deaths of Michael Strank, John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, Ralph Ignatowski, Ira Hayes, and John "Doc" Bradley.
